Joint Enterprise Conviction Overturned Following Jogee Guidance

A murder conviction based on the now-discredited joint enterprise doctrine has been overturned, marking a significant victory for justice reform advocates and those affected by outdated legal principles. The case, handled by Abrahams Solicitors, involved a defendant whose

A murder conviction tied to the former joint-enterprise doctrine was overturned after lawyers successfully argued that the trial jury was misdirected.

The decision follows the landmark R v Jogee [2016] UKSC 8 ruling, which redefined the mental element required for secondary liability. Abrahams Solicitors brought the case to the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC), which referred it back to the Court of Appeal.

Judges found the conviction unsafe under s2 of the Criminal Appeal Act 1995, confirming misapplication of the law as it stood at the time of trial.
